"I first sought Paddy’s help on a short-term basis when, obese and unfit, I signed up to do a 5km charity run and with the run day fast approaching, was struggling to run even just 1km! Within 3 weeks, training twice a week with Paddy, I was able to run the whole 5km. He puts an enormous amount of thought into the programme and works constantly on keeping it fresh and motivational. Paddy sets realistic goals and gives positive and sincere support and the training sessions are tough but enjoyable. Paddy finds that fine balance between getting you to work to your full potential without pushing too far. The financial cost of regular personal training sessions with Paddy has been far outweighed by the benefits to my health, and pales into insignificance when I consider how much I’ve wasted in the past on unused gym memberships and diets that don’t work! "Paddy puts the “Personal” into “Personal Trainer”, unlike any other - 

Before I met Paddy, my notion (& experience) of personal trainers was of someone who comes along to your home or workplace, who will stand next to you while you exercise & who will give you a few words of encouragement. Post- Paddy I have redefined my thinking because the things that set Paddy apart from all other personal trainers I’ve ever met are: First of all his knowledge of nutrition, exercise & injury rehab., (superb), secondly that his programmes are completely personal to you (tailor- made with no hiding place) &, as if that already hadn’t put him above all rivals, thirdly,  the level of his commitment towards you (extraordinary).

My motivation for contacting Paddy was because, at the beginning of February, a group of us walked up Table Mountain in Cape Town and whilst I managed to do it in just over 2 hours, it was an incredible struggle for me. I hated the feeling of being so unfit & vowed to do “something” about it before our next visit in May.

That “something” was signing up with Paddy and now every day (even as I contemplate aching thighs or some other well- exercised body part) I remind myself how lucky I am that Paddy took me as a client. After taking a thorough history vis a vis my eating habits and exercise, he devised me a programme for both exercise and nutrition that was tailored towards my next attempt at Table Mountain & in which he even took into account what I liked or didn’t in terms of exercise & nutrition. He is incredibly motivating, is a fantastic listener, and is always in touch (not just during sessions), checking progress and giving constant guidance, support and encouragement.

As evidence of just how personal what Paddy does is, my husband was so impressed with my progress that he too signed up with Paddy. My husband is in a totally different place from me in terms of fitness & his goal is to do a quick time in a 10k run. Accordingly Paddy has devised a programme for my husband that is completely different from mine, although he has added in some elements that we do together outside of sessions with Paddy.

My second attempt on Table Mountain? Well in February at the beginning of training with Paddy, I set a target time of 1hr45minutes but when we came to do it at the beginning of May, I’d revised it to 1hr30minutes, even though I thought that might be a bit ambitious. Well, thanks to Paddy, I managed 1hr17minutes!!! Yeehah! 

(And now Paddy has set me a target of less than an hour for the next time…….)"
